A Day in Iquitos

Braving the tuktuk traffic

The largest city in the world not accessible by road. As a result just jam packed with tuktuks buzzing along and blocking up the roads.
We had the good fortune of meeting a wonderful Australian woman, Jeannie, who came to Iquitos 3yrs ago to rescue crocodiles. Her nickname is Jenny Erwin (Peruvians can't pronounce Jeannie). Jeannie offered to take as up the river to visit her village and meet the local tribe. We were treated to traditional dances and under duress joined in! Afterwards we got to swim with the local children who were intent on impressing us with their jumping and diving. G braved the current and swam to the other side but I only managed to stay in for a moment or two after encountering a snake on the way in. G did admit to suddenly panicking that an anaconda might swallow her up mid way back. We took a walk back through the jungle, tasting local fruits and trying to keep up with the boys. Wandered through Jeanie's village, and after dark caught a long boat back down the Amazon under a full moon to Iquitos. An amazing day in the Amazon.
