It's taken months of saving and planning, but we are finally in South America! We have 5 months to travel from Buenos Aires over to Uruguay, up through the Iguazu Falls to Brazil, the Emerald Coast, Colombia, the Caribbean Coast, the Amazon, Peru, the Nazca Lines, Machu Picchu, Bolivia, Lake Titicaca, the Salar, back into Argentina, Mendoza, Chile, Patagonia and back to Buenos Aires by March 2012!

Bogota, the paintball riots
It is safe to say that the beginning of our trip in Colombia was not pretty. We went from a delicious 30 odd in Rio to a grey, wet and miserable 9 degrees, and when we were really lucky it hailed. Hostel Casa Queveda, our first hostel was a nightmare. From the bar playing AC/DC and buskers wailing til all hours in the square outside to people being mugged and the dog barking at our window til 5am. By that stage I was googling other hostels to stay in and at 8am we checked out. Then to really entertain us, there was a massive student rally just a few blocks from Platypus, the new hostel. The rally quickly turned into a riot, with the students using paintball guns to make their point heard. Made for intersting viewing. Bogota looked like it must have been a great city but the incessant rain and cold held us back. On the upside, we found some great restaurants and life is suddenly very very cheap!
