It's taken months of saving and planning, but we are finally in South America! We have 5 months to travel from Buenos Aires over to Uruguay, up through the Iguazu Falls to Brazil, the Emerald Coast, Colombia, the Caribbean Coast, the Amazon, Peru, the Nazca Lines, Machu Picchu, Bolivia, Lake Titicaca, the Salar, back into Argentina, Mendoza, Chile, Patagonia and back to Buenos Aires by March 2012!

Cathedral de Sal
We escaped Bogota for the day and visited Zipaquira, 'a quaint colonial village' according to Lonely Planet. LP also told us that if we caught the local bus and told the driver we wanted to see the Cathedral de Sal, it would be fine. Our driver dumped us on a muddy street in a not particularly pretty town and it took us 45 minutes to figure out how to get to the salt mine that the cathedral was in. But once we found it, dying on the way up the hill as the rarified air of high altitude hit us, it was all worth it. An entire working cathedral built by miners out of salt rock 190m below ground.
